Photos with Siblings

I like to start newborn photo sessions with sibling if there are some and if the kids feel ready to jump into a photo session. I love to see the older siblings connect with their baby sibling. It's always a little different, but I'm always able to capture tender moments. Sometimes I ask the older sibling to simply look at the baby. Other times I ask them to smell their baby sibling. I keep many tricks up my sleeve to help siblings show affection and connection through the photo session.

Family Photo Time

After we take some pictures with the siblings, I like to add mom and dad into the picture. It's the natural step! After these photos, siblings can be done with photos, if they want. If they want to keep joining in or watching from a distance, I welcome this too. This is such a special time that I think is important for siblings to feel like they can be included if they want to be. They are going through a big change too, plus it provides natural photos that I can take to capture your real life moments.

Newborn Photos

If baby is asleep and/or calm, I like to take individual photos of just baby. What this usually looks like is your baby wrapped in a simple swaddle. Depending on what baby prefers, I will also unwrap baby and take more detailed photos. I keep this simple and short since baby usually wants to be in the arms of mom or dad. It's amazing how quickly I can snap plenty of baby photos if we get them all snug as a bug!

Photos of Mother With Baby

At this point I like to take photos with either mom or dad with baby. These can be interchangeable. I'll ask who would prefer to take photos first with baby. I like to take 3-4 different poses with mom and baby together. For some of those poses, I'll ask dad to step in and be a part of the photos as well. If siblings want to be in more pictures, I welcome them to also go snuggle in and see baby.

Photos of Father With Baby

Once I've taken photos with mom, it is dad's turn to hold their little bundle. I have different poses I'll take with dad. When there is an opportunity, I'll have mom step back into the photo to snuggle around dad and baby also. This sure gives me lots of variety to deliver to you. Especially, if we have a curious toddler peaking over dad's shoulder. Everyone wants time with the baby and to see what all the fuss is about. :)

Second Try for Individual Baby Photos

If I wasn't able to get photos of just baby, this is when I make that happen. Baby is usually pretty sleepy at this point from spending lots of time in mom and dad's arms. Some babies won't want to leave their comfortable spot in mom and dad's arms, so I take advantage of taking some close-up photos of baby, still being held by parents. That is totally fine. Also, sometimes this is about when baby will want to eat. If that is the case, we take a break for a feeding and burping. If you are comfortable with it, I'll take flattering and non-revealing photos of mama nursing, dad burping, etc. There is never a dull moment. So, don't stress if you feel like the session isn't going how you may have planned. In my opinion, they are always going as planned. The beauty of capturing your lifestyle newborn session, is we capture all the things that go on when you first have a baby. Those days can seem so long and flash by at the same time. I'm documenting the tenderness and miracle it is to have such moments.

Environmental shots that include decor

Believe it or not, but you will love having some creative photos of your home that highlight your style and the time of life you are in. You'll want to remember those few days when you stayed home resting and getting to know your sweet new baby. It's so special.

If you are looking for a different approach to newborn photography, I also provide outdoor newborn photo sessions when the weather is warm enough.
